A poem for Monday

A classic, of course, courtesy as always of the wonderful “Leiden Muurgedichten”, though this one, more than a wall poem, is a previous-window-poem. Come to think of it if you are going to shut down a window, can you think of a better way to do it than with a poem?

I love that with the tree branch hiding the title it could also be “A Goat” (which should be the subjects of many poems, certainly)

I made my song a coat
covered with embroideries
out of old mythologies
from head to throat;

But the fools caught it,
wore it in the world’s eyes
as though they’d wrought it.

Song, let them take it,
for there’s more enterprise
in walking naked.
